Biological Tree Services (BTS) was awarded the Sustainable Florida Small Business Best Practice Award at the Sustainable Florida 11th Annual ceremony on June 9, 2009 in Orlando. The award winners are chosen as representing the best in sustainability practices in the state of Florida.

Sustainable Florida – Collins Center is an alliance of business, government and civic leaders and organizations whose mission is to advance the vision of sustainability by identifying, supporting and communicating best management practices. Since 1990, Sustainable Florida has been committed to honoring businesses and individuals whose work demonstrates that a healthy environment and a healthy economy are mutually supportive.

Biological Tree Services is nationally recognized for its expertise in developing biologically based approaches for turf, plant and tree care. BTS is the service-based subsidiary of parent company Think Global LLC which is a globally aware, leading specialty landscape maintenance service provider and product distributor focused on the utilization of natural biological products and environmentally responsible integrated pest management practices.

The innovative programs employed by Think Global introduce living microbes into urban and rural (agricultural) landscapes to drive the natural sustainable processes found in forest ecosystems throughout the world. The company’s business approach enables homeowners, architects, governments, builders, and developers to develop vibrant landscapes while reducing life cycle costs and upholding an environmental stewardship ethic. In addition, BTS’s natural products comply with the Sarasota County fertilizer ordinance requirement to reduce chemical fertilizer during the summer months. These products are distributed through its’ retail store, Sustainable Landscape Supply, located in Sarasota, FL and can be purchased online (Sustainable Landscape Supply).

Sustainable Florida Best Practice winners will also receive special recognition from Governor Crist and the Florida Cabinet at a Cabinet meeting later in the year. Additional program information is available at Sustainable Florida.

This year at the local level, Ms. Kovar won the prestigious “Guy Hudson Award” by the Keep Sarasota County Beautiful Advisory Board. And, in 2008, BTS was the winner of the Manatee Small Business of the Year Award and the Manatee Chamber of Commerce Think Green Award.
