Biological Tree Services, owned by Tammy Kovar, was awarded the “2009 Hall of Fame Entrepreneurship Award” by the Sarasota County Economic Development Corporation (EDC). The annual Hall of Fame awards recognize the outstanding achievements of Sarasota County businesses that support the Sarasota EDC’s vision “To be the organization that is the catalyst for creating a vibrant economy that is sustainable and competitive globally”.

The Entrepreneurship Award presented to Ms. Kovar recognizes a business in its first five years of operation. The Sarasota EDC’s award criteria include corporate citizenship and community involvement, corporate responsibility through employee programs, company growth, innovative achievements, and market expansion. The winner will also be nominated for the Florida Governor’s Business Diversification Award. Biological Tree Services was also named a finalist for the “Green-to-Gold Award” which recognizes a business that develops green products, services, processes, technologies or ways of doing business. Willis A. Smith Construction, Inc. was the winner of this award.

Biological Tree Services is nationally recognized for its expertise in developing biologically based, sustainable approaches for turf, plant and tree care. The innovative programs employed by BTS introduce living microbes into urban and rural (agricultural) landscapes to drive the natural sustainable processes found in forest ecosystems throughout the world. The company’s business approach provides homeowners, architects, governments, builders, and developers to create vibrant landscapes while reducing life cycle costs and upholding an environmental stewardship ethic. In addition, BTS’s natural products comply with the Sarasota County fertilizer ordinance requirement to reduce chemical fertilizer during the summer months. These products are distributed through its’ retail store, Sustainable Landscape Supply, located in Lakewood Ranch, FL and can be purchased online (Sustainable Landscape Supply).
